The Eurotransplant International Foundation, commonly known simply as Eurotransplant, is an international non-profit organization responsible for encouraging and coordinating organ transplants in its member countries. The headquarters of Eurotransplant is located in Leiden, the Netherlands. Eurotransplant is responsible for the allocation of donor organs in Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands and Slovenia. This international collaborative framework includes all transplant hospitals, tissue–typing laboratories and hospitals where organ donations take place. The total population of the seven Eurotransplant member states numbers almost 125 million people. Within this region there are 1,601 donor hospitals and 72 transplant centers. On the waiting list there are 16,000 patients who need a donor organ. Eurotransplant yearly allocates more than 7,000 organs.
