Hospitals in Tamil Nadu expanding Transplant Programmes |
The number of deceased donor organ donations is going up in Tamil Nadu and hospitals in Chennai are expanding their hospital programmes. A team led by Dr. K.R. Balakrishnan at Fortis Malar did its first heart transplant on a 34-year-old patient on Friday 18th June 2010. A team from Frontier Lifeline Hospital has moved to Global Hospitals to start a heart transplant programme there. The Apollo Hospitals’ liver transplant team, led by Dr. Anand Khakhar, is creating infrastructure and is preparing a waiting list of patients for pancreas and bowel transplants.
