Gift of Life for Seven – First time from Maheshwari community |
On 2nd February 2013, Sri Purushottam Malani, a 52-year-old wholesale businessman in Hyderabad was going to work on his two-wheeler, when a wheel from an auto rickshaw got loose and hit his scooter. He fell down immediately sustaining severe head injury. He was rushed to Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences where we he was put on a ventilator. Early morning of 4th February, he was declared “brain dead”. Hearing this news, the entire family and friends thronged the hospital. Sri Malani was a very strong advocate of eye donation and had counseled several families to donate eyes in the event of death.
Smt. Santosh Malani (wife of Sri Purushottam Malani) consented to organ donation, after which his kidneys, liver, heart valves and eyes were donated. Smt. Malani said, “My husband was a very cheerful person and very helpful by nature. I am glad he is going to continue to live on in seven people. This is perhaps the first donation from the Maheshwari community in Hyderabad.”
